The Law
Under The Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 and The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007, employers have a duty to provide first-aid equipment at all places of work where working conditions require it.
Depending on the size and/or specific hazards of the undertaking or establishment, trained Occupational First-Aider must also be provided.
Learning Objectives
- Participants who complete this course will be able to:
- Understand the responsibility of the Occupational First Aider
- Be able to provide treatment to minimize the consequences of injury until discharge on the arrival of medical assistance
- Be able to provide treatment in the workplace for a injury which does not require the attention of a medical practitioner or nurse
- Be capable of coordinating first aid arrangements in the workplace
- Be familiar with health and safety legislation on first aid provision in the workplace
